Malibu Rising

Taylor Jenkins Reid has a pattern now in storytelling that you recognize reading her books- period settings, infidelity, secrets that the characters try to maintain, people not sure of their decisions, children who lose their parents and still making their way up in life.

In spite of these patterns, something is catchy in her writing that makes her books compelling to read. I liked the way 4 children’s story is interwoven with their parent’s story, the way it culminates too is good. Also liked the fact how the author showed the family’s abusive nature repeating through the generations like a cyclic pattern. Party that forms an integral part of the story acts like a metaphor showing how the things are getting out of control as in the case of the protagonist’s lives.

Though not as good as her previous two books, still one of the best books I would recommend people to read just to know how good the author writes these situations like a magic!

Too much self-sufficiency was sort of mean to the people who loved you, Kit thought. You robbed them of how good it feels to give, of their sense of value.”
